Much to Rachel's chagrin, mom is right and soon Rachel and Christine are loading up the moving van!
Meanwhile, Rachel's friends and family wait for her to screw up the relationship. Xiao Qun's mother arrives and moves in with her daughter, thus affecting the new lovers' life together. Xia Qun tries to hide her sexuality from her mother but eventually tells her, causing confusion and disbelief to her traditionally-minded mother, who is divorced from her father. To further complicate matters, Xiao Quns's old girlfriend Junjun suddenly appears one day at the zoo and asks for help. The solarstain is a collage of objects whose 'breath of light' is impressed upon photo paper, exposed to UV, then fixed. The discolouration of the paper becomes the image - monochrome shadows.

In The Mirror Of Maya Deren

This documentary shows the life and work of the filmpioneer Maya Deren who died 1961 at age 44 mysteriously. Maya Deren was considered at this point in time the American avant-garde filmmaker of the 40s and 50s. Born in Kiev, she came at age five to New York as Elonora Derenkvskaya. Her parents, the father, a psychiatrist, her mother educated in music, had decided to flee from the progroms against Jews and their political problems from being close with Trotzky. In the beginning of the 40s Deren began to take an interest in dance, wrote and made her first movies in a surrealistic manner.
Mirrors, water and dance are prominent metaphors in her films. Moreover, her work deals with questions of time and gender. In this sense, her films are "the films of a woman". They show "constant metamorphosises". After a first visit to Haitii in 1947 she start to deal with trance and voodoo and became during further visits a voodoo priestess. She made herself a name as the specialist on the issue and gave many lectures.
Deren´s work is still of importance as it provokes psychoanalytical and feminist readings. Although Deren was married three times, it even allows the search for a lesbian subtext.

Those who considered tales of spirit women lying in it's grave together with the esoteric women's movement, think twice: Here comes a modern folk tale about a beautiful bisexual spirit in the guise of an erotic dancer, who's upsetting and enchanting the lifes of her lesbian lover, her straight & married fling as well as the husband's - but all for the better reason. The movie addresses subjects like unfaithfulness, illness, trust and recognizing your own identity - luckily without pressing the issues too hard and while using beautiful dreamlike imagery. Be warned - there's no happy end in the sense of a lesbian couple living happily ever after, but this can only be to the film's credit.

Some Real Heat

After September 11th it seemed like firefighters in the U.S. were all white and all men. In reality - and in total contrast to Germany - the percentage of women in the fireforce now is 11% (with 40% people of color). This documentary portrays 6 female firefighters in San Francisco and their struggle with the myth of the white, male, heterosexual firefighter. We get to see ax-lovers and chainsaw-mamas, hear about body ideals, muscles and uniforms, stories of childhood dreams and rolemodel responsibilities. Although the film depicts the reality of fire, it doesn't work with spectacular action shots. Rather its inspiring drive is a result of the impressive personalities of the women in the film, a great soundtrack and the unfailing girls-kick-ass energy of the director.
